SCA operating environment kit
This kit is specifically designed for Lyrtech's SFF SDR development platforms and offers a hardware abstraction layer with the best waveform portability necessary to Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) software communications architecture (SCA) 2.2-compliant development. The solution is entirely CORBA-enabled and incorporates a complete, preconfigured, turnkey SCA operating environment. The Lyrtech SCA operating environment kit is also designed to support the SCA tools from Objective Interface System, Green Hills Software and Communications Research CentreCanada.
The purpose of SCA is to create an abstraction layer between the hardware of software-defined radios (SDR) and their applications (i.e. waveforms) to increase the portability of the waveforms from one radio to another. The SCA operating environment kit, through CORBA, allows unprecedented waveform portability through the SFF SDR development platforms' general-purpose processor, DSP and FPGA.
Through the SCA operating environment kit, SFF SDR development platforms become complete

SCA-enabled radios. Just add SCA waveforms.
All-CORBA communications between processors
SFF SDR development platforms running the SCA operating environment kit use CORBA on all their processors—even the FPGA. This offers fast, efficient and standard transports, as well as yielding the highest level of portability and repartitioning in the industry. Moreover, by using CORBA on all the processors, there is no need to develop an MHAL or other proprietary abstraction layers.
Preconfigured SCA operating environment
The SCA operating environment kit offers SFF SDR development platforms SCA devices for its main components, such as the data conversion module, the RF module, and the audio codec.
Provides a flow from model-based design to SCA
Through the SCA operating environment kit, you can prototype waveforms for SFF SDR development platforms with Simulink and make it SCA-compliant using the supplied FRS SCA waveform as an example. Go to the model-based design kits' page for details.
Use as an SCA reference platform
Radio designers can use Lyrtech's SFF SDR development platforms as reference designs to learn how to create an SCA operating environment on their radios.
Examples
The SCA operating environment kit come with a mix of the following two types of examples:
- Software functional examples describe how to perform ORB functional examples running on an ARM, DSP and FPGA.
- Hardware functional examples describe how to use software components over several processing elements to implement a Family Radio Service (FRS) waveform.
